Meet Annette
Welcome to Girl Money Talks, a research project meant to promote awareness and knowledge regarding opportunities for women in business.
My name is Annette, a high school student living in downtown Chicago. Throughout my adolescence, I’ve always had a passion for math, analytical thinking, and independence. After declaring I was going to be the first female president of the United States at 6 years old, I have always strongly believed that women need to be empowered, represented, and valued in the modern-day corporate world.
While researching for an Op-Ed in my AP English Language & Composition class on women’s rights, I was surprised to learn that women make up over 50% of the U.S. population and account for 85% of consumer purchases. However, only 10% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women.
Additionally, throughout high school, I tutored girls in math, which led to more conversations and questions. It made me realize that many girls do not have the resources or contacts for future education and career opportunities. This knowledge ignited a new passion within me: to find a solution or simply motivation for other young girls about what it means to be a businesswoman today.
Therefore, I conducted interviews with successful businesswomen. This included standard questions regarding their career, how they feel their job provides opportunities for women, what advice they have for young girls going into business, and more. After the interviews were conducted, I synthesized the information to create a final statement, reflecting on the experience and providing hope to girls of the next generation.
